Macsafe by AppAlbania Buy now €8

Someone typed the wrong password on your Mac. Here is their photo.

Macsafe watches your Mac's lock screen. Each wrong password sends a message to your Telegram with a photo from the camera, the time and the name of the Mac. You see it on your phone a few seconds later, wherever you are.

  • Signed and notarized by Apple
  • Apple silicon, macOS 13 or later
  • No server in the middle
  • €8 once, lifetime

It tells you when it matters, and stays quiet when it's you

Your own Touch ID unlocks don't send anything. A wrong password, an unknown finger or someone getting in with your password always does.

  • Wrong passwordA message and a camera photo for every wrong attempt, counted: 1x, 2x, 3x.
  • Fingerprint not recognisedA message and a photo when Touch ID doesn't match.
  • Unlocked with the passwordA message, because someone else might know your password. After wrong attempts it says how many came first.
  • Unlocked with Touch ID or Apple WatchNothing. That's you. You can turn these on in settings if you want every unlock.
  • Macsafe turned off or startedA message when someone turns it off, and when it starts after a restart.

Ready in about two minutes

No account to create with us. Macsafe talks to your own Telegram and nothing else.

  1. Install

Open the download and drag Macsafe into Applications. It opens without warnings because it is signed and notarized by Apple.

  2. Connect Telegram

Paste your Telegram bot details and press Send test alert. The test arrives on your phone right away.

  3. Allow the camera

Click Allow when macOS asks. Then press Send test photo, lock your Mac, and you are protected.

Hard to switch off without you knowing

Macsafe runs in the background from the moment you log in. If it is closed or crashes, macOS opens it again on its own. Turning it off on purpose sends you a message first.

Your photos go to you, and only you

  • No AppAlbania server in the middle. Alerts go straight from your Mac to your own Telegram bot.
  • The camera turns on only after a wrong attempt, for about two seconds. The green camera light shows, as macOS requires.
  • Photos are deleted from the Mac as soon as Telegram receives them.
  • Your bot key is stored in the macOS Keychain, not in a file.
  • Nothing is hidden. Macsafe shows a shield in the menu bar and appears in Login Items.

What Macsafe can't see

  • The startup screen after a restart. Macsafe starts when you log in, so the first password after a restart is not watched.
  • A closed or sleeping Mac. The lock screen has to be on.
  • A Mac without internet. Alerts wait and are sent when it reconnects.
  • Intel Macs. Macsafe needs Apple silicon (M1 or newer) and an administrator account.

Questions

Will it slow down my Mac?

No. While waiting it uses about 14 MB of memory and no processor time. It only wakes up when the lock screen reports a password attempt.

Do I need Telegram?

Yes. Alerts and photos are sent to Telegram because it reaches your phone instantly and keeps the photos in your chat history. Telegram is free on iPhone and Android.

Can a thief turn Macsafe off?

Not from the lock screen. Someone who is already logged in can turn it off, but you get a "Macsafe turned off" message when they do. If they close or force quit it, macOS opens it again within seconds.

Does it work with Touch ID and Apple Watch?

Yes. Unlocks with your own finger or watch are silent by default. A fingerprint that doesn't match sends an alert with a photo, the same as a wrong password.

Why isn't it on the Mac App Store?

Apps on the Mac App Store are not allowed to read the lock screen's password results, which is how Macsafe knows about a wrong attempt. Macsafe is downloaded from AppAlbania instead, and every version is signed and checked by Apple.

How much does it cost?

€8, paid once. You own it for life, with no subscription. Buy it on Gumroad and the download arrives right away. If you need help with setup, contact AppAlbania.
